Hey friends! My name is Jodi, the person behind Southern Style & Home.
I am so glad you are here! Let me tell you a little bit about me and how Southern Style & Home got started.
My husband and I met in college and we have been married for 7 years. His name is Schuyler (Pronounced skylar). He is the one that does most of the carpentry and building and I mostly do the painting, staining, and planning. We have two children, Maddie and Jackson. Before starting this adventure I was a Registered Nurse for several years and loved it.
How my side hobby became a side job!
We moved to Northwest Arkansas and bought our first home together. When we moved there I started looking for a job, but not long after that I found out I was pregnant with our first child, Jackson! We decided at that point I would stay home with him so I stopped looking for a job. While I was pregnant I started painting and refinishing furniture. I absolutely loved seeing what paint could do to an old, run down piece of furniture. I decided to open a booth in one of the local antique malls. I had so much fun running the booth and meeting the customers, but once I had Jackson I closed my booth.
Once Jackson turned one and I felt like I was getting back to my normal self I decided to start painting furniture again. I was looking on Pinterest one day for some ideas on my next project and I stubbled upon this whole Instagram and blogging home decor world. I loved looking at all the inspiration and have always loved decorating and changing decor out season to season. I decided to start a page mostly to stage and help sell my furniture. My husband came up with the name Southern Sassy Paints. Hence the painting and I can be sassy…so he says…
Fast forward a year, a move back to my hometown, my second child being born that resulted in me taking a year off of Instagram. After all of that I decided to get back on IG full time and changed my name to Southern Style and Home. For about a year and half now my page has turned into so much more than just staging painted furniture. I still love painting and selling furniture, but I also love showing DIY project as we upgrade our home, tips on decorating your home season to season, and fashion deals and tips. However, no matter what it is that I’m sharing on my platform my main goal is for it to be affordable, but not skip out on quality. It is possible to find great products at an affordable price and it hold up year after year. Its also possible to take old furniture and make it new and make it work in your space. I will help you achieve these things.
